#ShiftMoment

On the 100th anniversary of Antoni Gaudí's death, the world is looking to Barcelona. The central tower of the legendary Sagrada Família has just been blessed. At 172.5 metres it is now the tallest church in the world. It still is not finished.

One question is being debated widely: after all the substantial changes, how much Gaudí is actually still in the Sagrada Família?

I find the reverse perspective more interesting: what remains of Gaudí's vision when almost everything that realises the work is not Gaudí? Not his hand. Not his lifetime. Not his control. Not even an unchanged technical execution of his plans.

Perhaps a field of tension between three elements:

Direction
A compass clear enough to provide orientation even in complexity.

Entry
A form others can enter — not as copyists, but as co-creators.

Task
Something that trusts people with responsibility — and thereby places responsibility in their hands.

Gaudí does not become smaller because others continue his work. He becomes larger because his work makes continuation possible.

Gaudí's successors do not become smaller because they serve someone else's design. They become larger because they enter a direction whose course they themselves must take responsibility for.

What I take from it:

How do we shape visions that others can carry forward without turning them into mere executors?
